WHO WE ARE: The Toronto Coffee Pot Tramway and Museum Society Inc. was incorporated in 1996. In the same year the Coffee Pot Tramway proposal was accepted in principle by the Greenway Committee who had by then completed the cycleway from Fassifern to Toronto. After calling for expressions of interest in 1998 Rail Access Corporation accepted our Coffee Pot proposal and the long process of accreditation began.
The Toronto Coffee Pot Tramway and Museum Society received a grant from the Federal Government, Federation Community Project Fund in 1999 with an agreement that the Coffee Pot would be up and running in the Year of Federation 2001. Due to our inexperience and frustration in dealing with four government beaureaucracies, Coffee Pot did not become operational as intended in 2001.
The latest hurdle to overcome is the Rail Infrastructure Corporation requirement that no part of the cycleway be within 3 metres of the rail line and a 4km long, stock proof fence is to be erected each side of the line on the 3 metres (Cess) boundary. Our Risk Assessment stated that the maximum speed of the Tram would be 5 kph in designated areas where the cycleway was close to the line. The maximum speed of the Tram will be 15kph. Using the Darling Harbour Tramway as a precedent was not acceptable as it does not operate under RIC's (was RAC) regulations.
So it looks like we go again to the Minister for Roads and Transport to sort this one out.
Meanwhile, can you help?
