Henry Engel and Mary May Tranter

Henry Engel was born on 23-Sep-1863. He married Mary May Tranter in 1887. May was born near Paterson on 1-May-1867. The family left the Engel property at The Fens to operate a dairy at Wauk Ivory near Gloucester, NSW.

After the dairy was destroyed by fire they returned to live in Tea Gardens where they built a house. Henry established a dairy herd on four acres adjacent to their home. He also raised pigs and operated a market garden, the produce of which he sold to the local population. Eventually he turned his hand to working as a shipwright and May helped her sister-in-law at the Homeville Guest House. Henry died in 1930 and May remained in the family home until she died in 1956. They were buried in Tea Gardens Cemetery.
