When I purchased this Flash in August 2003 I was well aware that there had been a fire in the original back box at one stage as you could still see and smell evidence of it, so I took delivery of the Flash with the boards mounted inside a Firepower back box knowing that I would have to change the lamp door over from the old Flash box so the globes would hit the correct places in the back glass and that I would also have to re-do the Flash artwork on the Firepower box, using the old Flash box artwork as a stencil reference. The original Flash back box also had a very big sag in the top piece of plywood, it was split along the top and just like the main Flash cabinet, was faded and scratched as well.
In the next shot you can see the scorch marks from the fire and also the split ply lifting in the top right hand rear corner. Turns out that the power supply had caught fire at one stage which made this door crispy and also had some affect on the colours on the backglass.
Not that it is really that visible in the above photo, but the top piece of ply is actually sagging about 2cm's downwards to the left of centre and if you look closely at the top right hand back corner you will see that the ply is lifting and peeling there. So I had no choice but to clean and re-spray that lamp door and re-install it onto the Fire Power Back Box.
After I removed the burnt Flash Lamp door I removed all the wiring harnesses and plugged up all of the globe holders and then I sprayed the door with 2 coats of gloss white paint.
I have experienced that a lot of the older lamp doors are falling to one side or are just HARD to align square after all these years, if I do all the adjusting that I possibly can using the existing door fittings and the displays still have a lean to them behind the glass then I get out the Dremel tool and simply en-largen the 4 x mounting holes in the display board, that gives you a little more flexibility in the positioning of EACH score display board individually.
Well there's no turning back now as this is the old Firepower box painted black and ready to have the Flash artwork stenciled and sprayed onto it.
