At the top left of the playfield is this little bowling alley, one of the 2 ramps in the game is always lit to 'Go Bowling' , if you hit that ramp then the ball ( with the help pf the apron in this game - explained next ) will be placed onto the right flipper so you have a shot at the pins. A shot on the centre pin is a strike and you will hear Fred and his mates carrying on, a shot either side is a spare and a complete miss will be met with boo's from Barney. The animation for this is a replica of an actual bowling score sheet and at the end of the game, if you were good enough then you are awarded the Bowling Champ and get to enter your initials into the game for it. You can also play the bowling game in general play when you HAVEN'T gone around a lit ramp, what this does is build up Yabba Dabba Doo and once you achieve that you receive a 'bowling power up, what that does is gives you a definite strike ( no matter which target you hit ) the NEXT time you do go around a LIT 'Go Bowling' ramp.
Seeing as the bowling can be assisted by the apron I thought I may as well show that to you next. In this game the ball can move from one side to the other by utilising the apron. There is a diverter on both sides of the game where the ramps bring the ball back to the flipper return lanes, you should be able to make out the plastic moldings at the top of this photo which are the end of each ramp. Each of those area's has a small steel 'gate' that when closed will drop the ball back to the return lane on the correct side like ANY normal pinball machine, however when the gate is open the ball is allowed to continue its path straight down and then travel along a very small lip all the way across the apron and is then dropped to the opposite flipper. So when playing this game if for example you have the ball trapped on the right flipper and the left lane is lit for Go Bowling, then you can shoot the ball up the left ramp and get it BACK to your RIGHT flipper for a shot at the bowling pins. I hope this makes sense. You can also see my own custom cards in the apron shot above , you will see them better on my later Flintstone pages.
This is where the balls go to when Multiball first starts, it is located at the furthest top left hand corner of the game. I took this shot unlit as it is normally a VERY dark section of the game, there are 4 red bulbs behind that plastic but they don't do enough - see my mod for this on my later pages. After spelling CONCRETE in the game you get 2 possible shots to 'The Machine' they are the right 'orbit' shot OR the left mini 'orbit' shot which is attainable ONLY from the right mid playfield flipper, both shots are indicated by a TIME insert that glow red. When you make either shot you get a decent animation on the screen for Multiball and the balls are fired from the shooter lane across the top of the game and a popper throws them up into the machine - they enter the machine from the steel plate you see above. The centre black disc of the machine spins and spins ( and sometimes spins forever ) with all 3 balls inside it , eventually and randomly the balls find their way out via the gap you can see at the bottom of the machine in the photo above. The longer the balls stay in the machine the higher your Jackpot figure builds to, when the balls are released they are dropped to the left flipper and the Jackpot shot is straight up the centre as discussed on my 2nd Flintstones page. After you get Jackpot then Super Jackpot becomes lit in the U-turn that is at the back of the bowling pins, the U-turn shot is available from the right mid-playfield flipper OR you can shoot at the ROCK targets from the lower left flipper and it often glances off into the U -turn. Flintstones Owners - notice I placed SMALL cable / zip ties around some of my rubbers, I found that the balls where getting stuck in the machine stopped and the the end of the centre rubber was facing those sets of rubbers , like in the 7 O'clock direction above, I would then have to wait for a ball search to release the ball......this simple fix stopped that forever.
The big green dinosaur in the top centre of the playfield is referred to as The Bronto Crane. There is a shot from the mid playfield right flipper to The Bronto Crane ( you can just see the playfield insert for it in the photo above at the bottom ), its the same shot as the Time machine when that is available. The game begins with the shot unlit , you first shot in there lights the insert and returns the ball to the DIG lanes. A shot into the mini orbit when Bronto Crane is lit takes the ball to the popper ( the same popper used to feed the machine for Multiball ) and you are then awarded one of up to 8 random awards, the ball is then dropped out of the Dinosaurs mouth into the middle of the pop bumpers which helps you when one of your random awards is Bedrock Derby.
Bedrock Derby is a 2 horse ( Dinosaur) race that takes place on the DMD screen, the more bumper hits you achieve the further in front your Dinosaur goes - obviously you achieve bigger points for winning the race.
This little guy does a few things too. There is a very hard to hit target located just under the bird - look at the 3 inserts in front of him. TIME Starts the Time Machine for 20 seconds. Counter starts at 10 Million, and any ball put into the time machine will start the value escalating until the ball comes out. After 20 seconds, the value is awarded, and the time machine stops JOB CHANGE Lights Change Job at the right orbit - Shooting the orbit awards 25 million HELP Three shots are lit to search for the kids: Left orbit, Centre Lane, and Right Orbit. You have 20 seconds to find the kids by shooting Search. 5 Million is awarded per search, and 15 million for finding them. Shoot the right ramp to rescue them
You can be awarded 2X playfield from the Bronto Randon Awards, the shot to start it is inside the u-Turn, you then get a 20 second period where the entire playfield is worth double points. The U-turn shot awards points when Super Jackpot and 2X Playfield are not lit There are 3 'clam' targets either side of the lower playfield area, if you complete a bank of 3 then a ball-saving 'drain shield' is lit for a short period of time.
My next page will show you some lighting modifications I did to this game as well as a better look at my custom cards.
