So the ramps on my Funhouse were a little 'milky' as they were the original ramps from the game, the centre ramp was busted up at the entry AND had the notorious 'bounce-back' issue so I decided to buy 2 new ramps for this game from Greg at RTBB. I had used Greg's ramps before on my WhiteWater game and I was VERY pleased so I had no hesitation in buying from him again. As you will see - I would NOT be dissapointed.
I had put this job off for a while as it seemed like a big job as there was a LOT of stuff attached to or wired to these ramps , or so it looked like. In the end this entire swap took me about 6 hours and I wasn't rushing. My STEPS ramp was not damaged in any way , but I figured if I was JUST to replace the main centre ramp and NOT replace my STEPS ramp then the game would look a little strange. Anyway - here is a look at my old ramps. And this was the main entry to my old ramp.
Ok this wasn't as bad as I had imagined it to be. You must remove the STEPS ramp first as it sits over the centre ramp, apart from the 3 or 4 main screws that hold the ramp in place this ramp also has an opto switch to remove at the top as well as a whole load of nuts and bolts holding the step switches in place along with the hand plastic and post holders as I have tried to indicate in the shot below. The wiring for the 3 x steps switches is cable tied along the inner edge of the ramp and I also found it easiest just to de-solder the 3 switches and join them back up when I was all done. After everything is removed you will have wires, globes and bits and pieces in the way most of the time while you work on the centre ramp, I did not find this to be a big deal as it was simple to move around to get to what you needed to access when removing and re-installing the ramps. Here is some idea of what you have left 'hanging. I have 2 extra wires running up to this point as I shine a blue LED constantly on behind the Superdog sign. It all feeds under the playfield behind the mirror so it is easy to move around. I was also able to do this whole job with Rudy's fat head in the way - no problems. And here is the game without any ramps. On the right side of the game you only have the lampshade globe / wire to deal with. Note that I also undid the 2 wire ramps but left them wired and just moved them out of the way down the playfield.
Here is your first look at my new ramps - amazingly clear On my new STEPS ramp pictured below I had already started re-fitting the components I knew I could while it was off the game , that made it heaps easier to re-install the ramp. I also used some 2.5mm perspex to cut a new cover that fits to the top of this ramp and polished up all the chrome parts as well before re-fitting them. Now get a look at the new centre ramp roughly fitted, you may have to look hard to see it , it is THAT clear. And here is the new STEPS ramp resting in place. This shot shows you the switches re-wired and recovered and the 3 LED globes I use under the hands plastics - job is nearly done just needs tidying up. Funny - because the entire time I was doing this I could swear that someone was watching me.
Very happy to have spent a couple of hundred bucks and 5 or 6 hours doing this for my Funhouse game.
I tend to notice 'little' things when I pull things apart and I saw this. I am guessing that a lot of guys would just let that be , because you don't really see this plastic anyway once everything is put back together - this is where it sits and is roughly what you see from the players viewpoint So in under one minutes work and effort I grabbed a spare post and glued it into place to hold this up at the same level as the steel rail, this post sits behind the wall of the centre ramp and never gets hit by a ball. I figure that 'while you are in here' you may as well do these little fixes.
I don't know why this was designed like this, anyway it is there , but the plastic keeps warping like in this shot. I fixed it by making a steel template to sit under it so it could not warp again or catch the side of the cabinet if it got out of place - pretty simple, and again something that most people I guess wouldn't bother with. And now it stays like this 100% of the time. My last Funhouse page , as usual, is just full of random and various images of my game, some are repeated from the playfield layout page but if you just want to see a load of game images then go check em out.
