Here is a view of Rudy that not a lot of people would have seen. I had some trouble with his eyelids at one stage and thought I would shoot some images of what it looks like inside his head and without his face when I had it all pulled down. Its a pretty freaky game to play when you put this little guy to sleep and he is staring at you wide-eyed and snoring ! Basically there is not a whole lot to it however what they did when they designed this works very well in the game. It is simply a few coils, springs, plungers and linkages inside a steel box.
First things first, I would have struggled to get Rudy out ( especially the part where you need to separate the jaw linkage ) with the help of Tom from Pinthugs not only has a good website BUT he has a detailed breakdown on how to remove Rudy's head and fix broken eyelids. The link to Toms Main Funhouse Page is here The link to Toms Broken Eyelids Fix Page is here
Here is my playfield without Rudy, he wasn't too difficult to remove , one of the most frustrating parts was actually getting a small driver to get down and remove the back of his head/hair section as there is one screw in an extremely tight area . I highly suggest a right angled screwdriver, you will struggle to get into this tight space without one. After removing his face and back of his head you need to go under the playfield and separate the jaw link before you can undo the screws that allow Rudy to come out of the game And here he is without a face and without a 'home'. Not such a loud mouth now hey tough guy !!
As stated above there isn't a whole lot to this device First shot is taken from underneath , looking up through an imaginary neck. Here is a better look at this from the top side showing more detail of the coils and linkages. And the same image again showing what coil drives which parts In the end , my fix was simply a wire had broken off the coil tab on one of the small coils that drives the eyelid linkages - 2 minute fix.
He lives to hassle the next pinball player.
