Some like this machine , some don't,
personally I love it and think it deserves it's place in pinball history.
It is seen as a difficult machine to play as the ball drains down
the sides a lot but that's where you need to use your playing skills
to prevent the ball from going near the sides too often.

The gameplay on Gorgar looks quite basic at
first, but like most machines from that era there is an order of gameplay that
should be followed to get the most out of it.
There are 2 x banks of 3 targets, the top
bank spells out G-O-R, the middle bank spells out G-A-R, scoring
G-O-R-G-A-R changes the eject hole value each time until Extra Ball is lit (
after 3 sets of G-O-R-G-A-R ) and lights the spinner for 1000 points a spin.
You also have to hit the 1, 2, 3 and 4
stationary targets around the playfield, after completing the 1, 2, 3, 4
sequence twice the red arrows on the playfield will light 1, 2, 3 or 4 in a
rolling order and if you manage to hit one of them while they are lit then you
score a free game, that is something that I really like about these
older classics is the fact that you must do things in a certain order to get a
good game out of them and then you must have a skill shot to hit certain
things on the playfield at the right time as well.
You also have 3 x rollovers at the top of
the playfield to score A, B and C which will in turn reward you with 2X and 3X
bonus,to get to them while playing a ball you have a spinner to get through on
the way up to the rollover lanes which score either 100 or 1000 points
depending if you have dropped targets or not. And then of course, there is The Pit !
I am not sure if it was the first machine
to have the magnet but it was a pretty cool feature for it's time, basically
each time you knock down a set of targets the " Pit Value " increases until
you reach a massive 50,000 points. Considering that a free game was achieved
at 300,000 points, then to score 50,000 of them from one shot made it a worthy
goal to achieve in gameplay. Each time you hit The Pit up to 30,000 the
machine said " Me got you" but when you hit The Pit lit at 50,000 the machine
said " You beat Gorgar" - all very basic speech but I believe the machine was a
goldmine for operators due to the speech.

My Gorgar was a bit beaten up so I
wanted to attempt to build a brand new cabinet from scratch and I
did, you can see how I built the cabinet in detail at my
Flash page as I also
rebuilt my Flash game cabinet as well.

My cabinet re-spray pages
show how I was able to stencil and re-spray a new cabinet that
I built from scratch for Gorgar, you will obtain information on
how I make my
stencils and the method that I used to completely re-spray all new
artwork to make
my Gorgar look like new again and I show you some good step by step images of
the re-spray and how it turned out.

Here are some nice big
images of the playfield on my Gorgar after it was stripped and restored.
