I didn't take a whole lot of shots of my KISS wall hanging as I was making it, so I thought I would show a few images of how I put things together when I made the Harlem Globetrotters playfield wall hanging. You have to think that if you are making one of these you have no depth behind the playfield so that means you don't have things like drop target assemblies to hold drop targets in place or even the things like pop bumper bodies have nothing to screw into, but the fact that it is only a wall hanging and doesn't have to be "operative" means that you can cut a few corners in the building process and you don't have to be as neat as you normally would be if restoring an actual pinball machine playfield. You can do the ugliest glue and screw jobs as long as they work because they will never be seen again.
Because I am not installing the normal metal "thumper" that would be found on a real machine, the bumper bodies and skirts have nothing to hold them in place, so I simply glued the skirts into position.
The bumper bodies still had no-where to screw into at this point so I simply got some 6mm MDF and glued and screwed in into place behind each pop bumper, this gave me somewhere for the screws that go through the bottom of the bumper body to screw down to.
The end result is a bumper that sits nice and tight on the playfield
Once again you have no drop target assemblies underneath the wall hanging to hold the drop targets in place, so once again the scraps of 6mm MDF offcuts come in handy as can be seen in the images below. The first thing I had to do was to cut the long stems off each drop target.
Next I had to make up a little "bed" for the drop targets to sit in, again I have glued the targets into each slot that was cut into the MDF
And then I just slipped the targets through the playfield and screwed the "bed into place. Obviously everything was measured out to make sure the targets sat in the correct spots.
The next 2 images show how I installed the round "still" targets onto this wall hanging.
I simply just bent the target blades and screwed them into position.
