No this is not Wilson the volley ball from the movie Castaway in the 1st photo, although I did speak to it a few times throughout the spraying process, words like shit.......f....k etc come to mind! If you recall Lars talking to James in the Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster then you can picture me walking around the garage talking the same way to this machine as I sprayed it !
The process for spraying the blue is identical to the red just make sure everything that is not meant to be sprayed is covered and taped and ensure all the gaps are sealed so no overspray sneaks in anywhere.
As usual I did 3 LIGHT coats of the red paint over a 2 day period. The instructions that came with the stencils said to remove the stencils BEFORE the paint dried, however I chose to leave the stencils on and wait until it was completely dry before removing the stencils. The risk I ran was that the paint would dry attached to both the backbox AND the stencils edges and create terrible edges if the stencils decided to grab the dried paint from the edges as I removed it. That is the reason I did 3 LIGHT coats, to ensure the paint would not "gum up / build up" against the edges of the stencil.
As you can see from this next shot, the edges came out fine. I did have a couple of spots where the stencils kept hold of paint as I removed them and lifted a few spots off but it is barely noticeable.
My next, and last Paragon backbox re-spray page has a large image of the backbox completely finished with the blue sprayed over the top of this red image
