The first thing that I did was to remove all the parts from the top of the playfield and bag them in individual bags according to the part of the playfield that they came from, eg Bullseye Target area, Left flipper parts etc etc, these will be some of the last pieces that I will re-install anyway as I plan to do all the underside first and then re-build the top of the playfield later.
After that I then went around and labeled all of the parts located under the playfield. In the next shot you can see a few things .........
Hopefully you can make out a) the labeled switches - I simply put a small label on each switch corresponding to the function it was on the playfield, you can see the white tags on the switch blades for the ABC rollovers and the top eject hole. b) the ABC rollover switch activators already removed c) the black asterisk at the top right of the shot ( next to the yellow-green wire ) is where I cut one of my Pop Bumper wires from, I will mark the underside of the new playfield in places that the 5 bumper wires have been cut from so that I can instantly see where they should be wired back to. I will also label / tag that yellow-green wire that runs to the asterisk from the main harness as well. Eg- I will put a small tag on it that says "Pop 1" or whatever pop bumper it relates to on each of the wires.
I wanted to make sure that the top surface would not come into contact with anything when I started working on the underside parts swap, so I decided to buy new wooden side rail strips and install them before I did any part swapping work, that way I could re-install the 5 x Pop Bumper skirts and bodies and make sure the lamp holder in each bumper is in place and poking back through to the underside of the playfield, ready to be wired up instantly as soon as I have brought the wiring harness across. By having the wood rails in place I could easily have it all turned upside down with the bumper bodies in place and it should sit evenly on my work table.
If you are doing a job this big, don't slacken off or cut corners, this is the little plastic "cup" that is screwed in under your playfield where the ball drops into an eject hole on these old William's machines.
I took about 5-10 minutes with Novus 2 and Novus 1 and a toothbrush and rag to clean the 2 of these from Time Warp I then re-installed them into the new playfield. The next shot shows you what you get when you clean it up , re-install it and touch up that 5mm white border that runs on the inside of the eject hole.
There are a few parts that I worked out I could move from the old PF to the new PF straight away, these cups, the flipper bushings, the rollover switch activators and the metal posts that sit in the top of the playfield that hold the top 'running rail' in place. There's a couple of shots below of these other parts I have installed already before moving any underside parts across. All of the parts I have moved have no bearing or affect on the actual movement of the underside wiring harness and other parts and I thought it would be easier drilling out the holes for the flipper shaft screws and the top rail posts before any wiring was in place anyway.
