OK- I was doing everything possible to avoid the cut up of the wiring under the playfield so I decided to do some last minute touch ups to the playing surface as it had a few very small area's with a little bit of paint off here and there, so I decided to touch up the area's that would be visible after everything goes back on. This mainly included the black area's around the top ABC rollover lane switches and the deep blue colour near all the bumpers. And finally I got to this stage, here, if you look closely, you can see that I have started to label all the spots on the new PF. I decided I was going to take an hour or so extra and make sure that I labeled EVERY little pre-punched divot on the underside of the new PF so there would be no mistaking what went where when I re-install it all.
I will show some images below of my labeling in detail. The way I have decided to finally go about moving the GI lighting string is to run some copper de-soldering braid instead of trying to preserve and transplant the original silver braid from the old playfield. So that line you see is a pencil drawn map of where I will have to staple down the new copper braid.
My plan is to just put full runs of the copper braid in place and then cut it at each lamp holder as I am soldering them to the copper braid. I had also discovered that there was about a dozen spots where certain insulated wires ran from the main wiring harness and made contact with certain points along the bare silver GI lighting string so I labeled those insulated wires in an order from 1 -12 as they ran around the PF from left to right and then labeled the points on the new PF where they would be re-soldered into the new copper de-soldering braid GI string. This may make more sense when you see the last two photo's on this page.
By the way, the RED dots that you see are where the white plastic main harness holders ( loops ) screw into place. I did that all over the underside of the new PF.
In the first shot you will see that I cable tied each pair of insulated wires individually so they would stay together after I cut them from the lamp holder and labeled them accordingly. In the second shot you can see that I have the new PF labeled already so that once I have the new copper braid stapled down along those lines and the lamp holder soldered to the copper braid and stapled down then all I have to do is solder the two pairs of yellow / white wires in this case onto the correct spot. I will repeat this process around the 12 points of the GI string. (The second shot is upside down to the first in these photo's, I do not have them labeled the wrong way.) |
