I like to do very small 'mods' to these machines if I think it will make it look better ( like my Flash Bumper Caps mod ) I thought that this Red Rectangle was a pretty ordinary target on what is otherwise a VERY artistic playfield, so I wanted to change it.
To do it I simply made a new sticker that has the same image of the drop targets and glued it on over this surface, I always use an EXTREMELY hi-stick SPRAY glue for all the target stickers and I have only ever had one start to lift off. And below is how it turned out. I also painted the original red target BLACK and I always run a texta around my newly printed target images that is the same colour as the target or the same colour as the image so that you do not see the white edge of the sticker.
The top left plastic was another "average" part of the original playfield design and I saw no reason why it needed that big chunk of plastic hanging off the edge that covers the top eject hole. As you can see, the clear plastic has gone yellow with age ...................so I decided to cut it off.
In this next shot you can see the plastic installed WITHOUT that old yellow piece hanging out to the right hand side. I used a jigsaw to cut the plastic and I was very careful NOT to let the 'bed" of the jigsaw touch the plastic as I cut, I then then sanded the edge back to a smooth edge with a Dremel tool and then I polished the edge with fine sandpaper. It all took about 10 minutes.
That is NOT a mark in the blue part of the PF , it is a scrap of drilled out plywood that got into the photo. And below is a shot of the top of the playfield all bolted back together, I am yet to re-install the apron and I will show shots of that on my Cabinet Restoration Page in the future.
Remember how it started ???? |
