Forget what you hear, this is a GREAT pinball machine from it's era. Take a look at the artwork to start with, the bonus system can score up to 10X, it has a heap of targets to drop, 5 bumpers, 2 eject holes ( one hidden ) and it has a great theme and awesome sounds for the period it was manufactured , personally it is one of my all time favourites and those banana flippers add a whole new dimension to completing shots and they make "backshots" so simple. This Time Warp was the first one I had been offered in a lot of years so I grabbed it.
The cabinet was typically scratched, scuffed worn etc and the playfield was a BIG concern for me as it had three large "worn to the wood" area's on it, two sections near the flippers and one near the right return lane, the backglass was about a 6 out of 10 and it does not have a Williams coin door on it either.
So after owning it for a few months I started looking on Ebay for parts I may need and I see this guy in the states selling brand new old stock Time Warp playfields, naturally I made bids on it until I won it and that is the stage I am up to now in 2005, about to start this restore by swapping all the top and bottom parts onto the NOS playfield. I will do my best to document a subject that I have found is lacking much information on the Internet so that I may help someone else in the future. Personally I have never attempted this before, some say it is simple while others say not to go anywhere near it. So I figure that there will be a bit of "common sense" guesswork involved to complete this swap and the wife will have to give up that dining room table for a few weeks too I would assume !
Anyway, you can see from the images throughout this page what I am dealing with, you can see the wear marks in the PF in and the general untidiness of it all, the apron is ugly and look closely at that cabinet and you may see that some idiot has drilled a heap of holes in the front panel of the cabinet- what is it with people and drills !!!!
Fairly nervous about doing this. I have really tried hard to document this over half a dozen web pages and give you as much detail as I can about how I did my 1st PF swap. I try to cover the bottom part of the swap extensively. These pages will include end result images of the new playfield as well.
